M. Kristina Raattama, General Counsel
Ms. Raattama is the General Counsel of Florida International University, a position she assumed in 2010. Ms. Raattama is responsible for overseeing legal matters for Florida International University and leads the General Counselís Office.
Prior to joining Florida International University, Ms. Raattama served as the Assistant Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in the University of Floridaís Office of the Vice President and General Counsel. In this position, Ms. Raattama oversaw the administrative operations of that office; provided legal support in all aspects of university contracting, including complex business transactions, with an emphasis on real estate, construction, debt issuances, purchasing and research endeavors; and advised on university governance issues, conflict of interest, and environmental health and safety-related laws and regulations.
Before joining the Office of the General Counsel, Ms. Raattama practiced law in the real estate/commercial finance group of the law firm Bradley Arant, Boult, Cummings, LLP located in Nashville, Tennessee. Before becoming a lawyer, Ms. Raattama worked in London, England through the Walter C. Wattles/Lloyd's of London Fellowship Program. She also worked as a Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Representative Dante B. Fascell (FL) and as a lobbyist/legislative assistant with a private law firm in Washington, D.C., specializing in city government and higher education issues.
Ms. Raattama received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Vanderbilt University and her Juris Doctor, with High Honors, from the University of Florida.
She is a member of the Order of the Coif, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Florida and Tennessee bars.
